South Africa currently leads the rankings with 66,670 points. The Proteas have managed to achieve 7 wins and 3 draws in the current cycle with a total of 11 matches played. The only match the South Africans have lost during the cycle so far was against India in the Freedom Trophy in January 2024. The South African team is currently playing a 2-match test series against the Pakistan on its soil.
The path to the final for the Australians was not as easy as it was for the Proteas, but the Australian team proved their mettle and earned their place the hard way over the course of the cycle. Australians managed to draw Ashes 2023 England and the Frank Worrell Trophy against the West Indies. However, the Australian team gained important points for the WTC cycle by winning the Benaud-Qadir Trophy against Pakistan and Trans-Tasman Trophy against New Zealand. The Australian absolutely needed to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to reach the WTC final and the former champions managed to do just that by beating India 3-1 in the series. Australia has not played yet Sri Lanka in the current cycle.
Notably, the two finalists, South Africa and Australia, have not faced each other in the current WTC cycle.

India secures third place in current WTC round
