Nowadays, we have become numb for filmmakers and studios making changes to films and television programs after their initial release to the public. Whether it is to erase a Starbucks Cup from the Westeros Kingdom or to touch a died actor digitally resuscitated, all the ideas of “Final Cup” came out by the window.

A great reason to encourage this attitude dates back to our favorite decade, all of you: the 90s!

In 1992, Ridley Scott reissued Blade runner And nicknamed “the director’s cup”. He made significant modifications to the room version that many fans of the film preferred.

A year just before Blade Runner: Director cut The release, a series of a box office of the 80s landed in theaters and was refused by the public and the critics. And in 1995, the director of this film had the chance to publish the cup of its director and changed the film to a certain extent which actually changed the story.

I am drawn diet for a giant freakin robot and that’s why Highlander II: the striking failed.

I love Highlander

Ok, very quickly for anyone who did not see Highlander.

Number one: see Highlander. This is the whole list. Seriously, Highlander is incredible. It is one of the most pleasant and elegant fantastic action films of the 80s.

If you don’t want to bring joy in life for any reason, here is the basic idea of Highlander: There are immortals here on earth. They are all intended to fight for a mythical objective called the price. The last wins, or as the slogan of the series says, “there can only be one.”

If you want to get more in depth than that, consult our rules of Highlander video. Or, you know, look Highlander And be a happier person.

The first film took place in New York day of the time and ended with our hero, Connor Macleod, beating the last immortal and winning the prize. It was a perfectly closed loop of a story. So when the time came to make a sequel, there were a lot of narrative obstacles as well as production problems.

On the one hand, the end of Highlander Deleted the immortality of Connor, the great hook of the whole concept. In addition, all the other immortals were now dead, including the friend and mentor of Connor, Ramirez, played by Sean Connery. And they were going to bring him back whatever happens because he was an actor of a big name and extremely fun in the first film.

How (not) do Highlander 2

So how do you deal with all these problems? Well, the original version of Highlander II: the striking made extreme decisions. The largest had to do with the origin of our heroes and their supernatural capacities. In the theatrical cup of Highlander IIHistory withdraw the immortals as alien of a planet called Zeist.

In the first film, The Seckening was an explosion of spiritual energy that Immortal lived after removing another. In the following, it is redesigned in a magic force that links Connor and Ramirez and allows the resurrection of Ramirez.

Needless to say, it was not going to fly with fans of the original film, but we have many more problems to face upset fans.

The story takes place in the future year of 2024 and focuses mainly on the shield, an electromagnetic barrier created to protect humans from solar radiation. It works but also plunged the planet into a permanent night and was capitalized by a gourmet mega-society.

A perfect end science fiction Concept but not something that really sounds online with the action fantasy of the diffusion of the original. And although the design of the production of Highlander II is undeniably impressive, the dark dystopian frame of 2024 has relaxed the public. As a person who lived in 2024, I can tell.

Director Russell Mulcahy has returned for the rest and his talent for filming visual films is present, but Mulcahy ended up being withdrawn from production. Highlander II Shot in Argentina, but finally had to move production when the Argentina economy experienced a devastating accident.

At one point during all this chaos, the bond company for the completion of the film and certain investors were able to take control of Highlander IIRemove Mulcahy and any creative influence out of the photo.

A horrible outing

Needless to say, the manufacture of Highlander II was an ambitious, daring and finally condemned company. The theatrical cup which was published without the involvement of Mulcahy was largely mocked by criticism and rejected by the public, opening in third place to the box office during his opening weekend.

Our favorite spawn criticism, Roger Ebert, gave the film 0.5 stars and described it as incomprehensible hilarious. And we defend ourselves with Roger on this one. Highlander II: the strikingThe theatrical cut is a mixed and agitated film with little to recommend outside its newness status. As much as I have a persistent nostalgia for this version of the film, it is legitimately bad.

After having become a sadly famous and even called one of the worst films of all time, director Russell Mulcahy was able to supervise a new cup of Highlander II Nicknamed “the Renegade version”. In this cut, all references to the planet Zeist are deleted or modified to involve a distant fantastic past rather than a past stranger planet.

You also get editing corrections. For example, the theatrical cup merges two separate sword fights between Connor and the main villain of the film, Katana, played by Michael Ironside. In the Renegade version, these two fights are fully restored. And I’m never going to say no to more Michael Ironside.

The Renégat version has become the easily accessible cut of Highlander II: the striking After her release, and because she was considered an improvement, there was no substantial demand for video versions at home in the theatrical cup.

So, unless you see Highlander II In the theater, on its original VHS or Laserdisc outing, or caught it on television in the 90s, you have never seen the original film cup. And this is continuing today with widely available copies of the film being the Renegade version or the special edition, another reconfigured cut which adds new CG effects.

Look, it is not a doubt, the re -edited renegat version of Highlander II is greater than the theatrical cut. It is still not a great film and it is always a fairly poor suite, but it is certainly a film edition and a much more regardable narration than the theatrical cup.

However, the fact that Highlander II: the strikingThe theatrical cut was completely distant is not something that I support. This version of the film is a piece in the history of the film and deserves preservation, archiving and accessibility of the appropriate public. Just because manufacturers of Highlander II Said an error with their suite does not mean that they should have to erase history.

I’m sure there are people who really like the Zeist version filled with Highlander II And they deserve to have a high quality copy kept to monitor. It is not because a film is bad that it should not exist. Highlander II: the striking is a failure and those who forget their failures are doomed to repeat them. This is probably why there was no good Highlander Film since the first!

If there are Zeist apologists, I must hear from you in the comments. Give the video like and subscribe to the channel if that’s the kind of things you would like to see more here at Giant Freakin Robot. Until next time, try not to lose your head.
