The co-founder of Mamahesh, Ghazal Alagh, does not include words with regard to toxic leadership. In an article on X entitled “How to identify a toxic manager”, Alagh presented five key signs that signal a bad boss.
The entrepreneur said, “Toxic managers do not annoy productivity but to seek control because they want obedience.” Instead of looking for the best talents, she maintains, these managers favor submission and avoid hiring problems of problems that could challenge them.
She adds, “The real leadership is like hiring more intelligent people than you.” A strong leader promotes growth by surrounding himself with intelligent and innovative individuals rather than creating an echo room.
The Alagh post breaks down toxic leadership into five key traits:
- Hiring for control, not productivity – Toxic managers avoid independent thinkers and rather seek employees who do not repel.
- Discouraging questions – Employees fear speaking, which slows down progress. “Real leadership values curiosity, not silence,” notes Alagh.
- Approval search, no ideas – A workplace that prioritizes approval on new ideas leads to stagnation.
- Fearing comments – “A weak leader will avoid comments, but a strong leader asks:” How can we improve? “”
- Build teams from ‘Yes-Men’ – Success does not come from a blind agreement but from various minds arranged to challenge the status quo.
