Wildfires in the greater Los Angeles area The fires continued to burn largely out of control Thursday, with at least five fires engulfing more than 45 square miles.
At least 16 people died as a result of the fires, which were fueled by dry conditions and strong winds.
More than 180,000 people were forced to evacuate as fires in Palisades, Eaton and Hurst – among others – burn tens of thousands of acres in densely populated areas.
