India to launch new domain name for banks to fight digital fraud

The Central Bank of India presents an exclusive domain “.bank.in” for banks from April 2025 as part of efforts to combat the increase in digital payment fraud and strengthen confidence in online banking services.

The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) will serve as an exclusive registrar of the new field, the reserve bank of India announced on Wednesday. The Central Bank plans to deploy a separate “end.in” domain for non -banking financial institutions.

“The increase in cases of fraud in digital payments is a significant concern,” said RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, adding that the new domain system aims to reduce cybersecurity and malware and phishing activities. This decision comes like India Fighting with an increase in digital payment fraud and predatory loan applications.

The Central Bank said that it would publish the detailed guidelines for banks for the new initiative, which is designed to help users distinguish legitimate banking sites from fraudulent websites.
