‘India’s Got Latent’ row: SC to hear Ranveer Allahbadia’s plea against multiple FIRs today

On Thursday, the Supreme Court will hear a advocacy of Youtuber-Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia alias Beerbiceps, contesting first against him because of comments made on a YouTube show. The case should be taken care of by a bench including judges Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh, following a request from Allahbadia lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud, for urgent consideration.

Chief judge Sanjiv Khanna confirmed the mission of the bench, declaring: “I assigned the bench, and he will appear (before a bench) in two to three days.” The controversy comes from Allahbadia’s remarks on the YouTube program of actor Samay Raina, “India’s Gott latent”, which sparked an important reaction and led to several FIRs in various states.

Allahbadia and Raina both issued apologies.

Raina said: “Everything that happened was too much for me. The agencies to ensure that their requests are concluded fairly.”

Allahbadia also apologized, recognizing that his comments were not appropriate, saying: “My comment was not only inappropriate, it was not even funny. Comedy is not my strong point, I am Just there to say sorry. ”

In addition, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has intervened, making a summons to Allahbadia, Raina and other people involved. Allahbadia cited death threats as a reason to request a postponement from the hearing, which was reprogrammed on March 6. The Maharashtra cyber-cell also summoned Allahbadia and Raina for interrogation, with the appearance of Allahbadia scheduled for February 24. Inspector General Yashasvi Yadav reported that 42 individuals, including artists and influencers, were called to an interrogation concerning the incident.

The legal proceedings extended beyond the main characters of Allahbadia and Raina, with other digital influencers like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Makhija also appointed in the FIR.

The case saw hearings reprogrammed due to various logistical and security concerns, some people currently abroad. Despite the ongoing legal challenges, Allahbadia and Raina remained out of contact with the investigation agencies, according to a joint declaration by the police of Mumbai and Guwahati.
