Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna says his side “aren’t too far away” after a first Premier League home win of the season lifted them to 18th in the table.

Liam Delap’s penalty and a low Omari Hutchinson strike eliminated Chelsea and will give the Tractor Boys confidence heading into 2025.

They are just one point behind Wolves and two behind Everton.

McKenna said: “That was all it took, I thought we came out really quick, really aggressive, and tried to force ourselves into the game. “I thought Liam [Delap] It was incredible tonight. It was one of many incredible performances tonight.

“There was hope in the performances in general, we participated in almost all the matches. If you do this, you still have a chance. We are only missing a few points compared to what we could have had.

“Getting three points tonight is always welcome, of course. We are in the games and we are not too far away.

“We must continue”

Delap was a thorn in Chelsea’s side throughout, scoring and assisting in the Premier League for the second time this season and netting Town’s first penalty in the top flight since November 2001.

He told Sky Sports: “We’ve worked so hard this season and it hasn’t gone well. The performances deserved a victory and today we showed that we were excellent and we defended well, attacked well. We are in turmoil. »

“We had three or four occasions where we didn’t get the penalty that we probably deserved, so it was good to get that one and put it in the back of the net. I’ve practiced them a million times, so I just aimed for the corner and put it there.

“I don’t think it changes much. We did just as well in other games this season, but we didn’t get the result. We didn’t finish our chances or concede late. We just have to keep going now and get more wins.
