US vice-president JD Vance said that he feared the “threat of the interior” of Europe, more than external actors like Russia and China, in a confrontation speech that has struck the state of democracy on the continent.
In a speech to the Munich security conference, Vance criticized the cancellation of a recent election in Romania, the pursuit of an anti-abortion demonstrator in the United Kingdom and the ban on German extremist politicians during the event itself.
“If you run in the fear of your own voters, there is nothing that America can do for you,” he said. “The threat that I am most concerned about Europe. . . is the threat of the interior. The retirement of Europe of some of its most fundamental values. »»
The speech occurred a few days after the Trump administration blinded the European leaders, announcing that it would start talks with Russia at the end of the war in Ukraine.
The US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth said on Wednesday that a return to the borders of Ukraine before 2014, before the Russian annexation of Crimea, was an “unrealistic objective”.
Friday, in Munich, the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen urged the block “avoiding an uproar and the outcry” on Trump’s proposals on Ukraine.
Vance argued that Europe should not “talk about democratic values” but “living them”, adding that it could not “force people to think, what to believe”.
Vance added: “Increasingly throughout Europe, they vote for people who promise to put an end to uncontrolled migration.”

The speech occurred a few hours after US President Donald Trump announced his intention to introduce reciprocal prices, quoting the EU as a probable target due to his taxation of exports.
