Ghana’s population is expected to reach 33,007,618 in 2024, a growth of 1.07 times compared to 2021, when it was 30,832,019.

This increase in population is considered a milestone for the country.

After the 2021 Population and Housing Census, Ghana’s population stands at 30.8 million.

Projections for 2050 suggest there will be a million more women than men in the country

GSS report

The expected demographic change in Ghana, with one million more women than expected by 2050, will have significant implications on various aspects of Ghanaian society, including economic development, health care, social structures and dynamics of gender.

The Statistical Service projects an annual increase of 711,706 people between 2021 and 2030, estimating that the population will reach 37.24 million by the end of this decade.

The prediction that Ghana will have one million more women than men by 205 should spur policymakers, businesses and society at large into action.

By addressing the challenges and opportunities of this demographic shift, Ghana can harness its potential for positive transformation and long-term progress.

Through initiatives focused on gender equality, improved healthcare and women’s economic empowerment, Ghana can use this projected disparity as a catalyst for sustainable development and positive change.
