Yesterday I headed south taking rural roads east from Morgan Hill through San Martin to Gilroy. I was on my electrically assisted recumbent bike. The wind was light, so I was able to maintain an average of just under 20 mph, a fast and exhilarating pace. This covered 27 miles in just over 90 minutes. I loved seeing our green hills after the recent rain.

We are lucky that our vegetation is not so dry here in the north. Our friends to the south weren’t so lucky, it’s much drier there and they had strong Santa Ana winds bringing hot, dry air, which made the fires worse. I don’t personally know anyone who has lost their home, but we think of those who have. The firefighters here came down to help, just like the California firefighters have helped us in the past. We are all in this together.
