Philanthropist and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty visited the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj for three days and participated in Mahaprasad’s service at the ISKCON camp. Wearing a green saree and holding a black bag, she was seen giving chapattis to devotees.
Online videos show Murty exploring the ISKCON Mahaprasadam kitchen, chatting with volunteers and learning how food is prepared with modern equipment.
She arrived at Kumbh to perform tarpan, a ritual to honor her ancestors, and also took a holy bath at the Triveni Sangam.
“I made a wish for three days, I took a holy bath yesterday, today I will do it too and tomorrow again. My maternal grandfather, my maternal grandmother, my grandfather, none of them “They couldn’t come – that’s why I have to offer tarpan on their behalf and I’m very happy,” she said.
She also congratulated Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the arrangements made. “All the people under Yogi Ji’s leadership have done so much good work here. I wish them a long life.”
Furthermore, she described the Maha Kumbh as a unique opportunity. “It is ‘Teerthraj’ (supreme sacred place). The Maha Kumbh is coming after 144 years, and I am very excited and happy to be here,” she said.
The Adani Group, in collaboration with ISKCON, provides Mahaprasad to over 40,000 devotees every day. The kitchen in Prayagraj Sector 19 is equipped with boilers and machines capable of producing 10,000 rotis per hour.
Sudha Murty is not the only influential person to attend the Maha Kumbh mela in Prayagraj. Apple founder Steve Jobs’ wife Lauren Powell Jobs, veteran actor Anupam Kher and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani were also present at the mega-congregation.
On Tuesday, Adani arrived at the Maha Kumbh with his family. He was accompanied by his wife and Chairman of the Adani Foundation, Priti Adani, his son and the Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ, Karan Adani.
Since the start of the Maha Kumbh on January 13, nearly 87.9 million pilgrims had taken a holy bath by January 20.
