Manchester City advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup after a thumping 8-0 victory over League Two Salford City at the Etihad.
Salford-born James McAtee scored a first senior hat-trick as the City side avoided a huge cup upset with a ruthless performance that will be a welcome confidence boost for Pep Guardiola and his players.
The excellent Jeremy Doku scored twice, while Jack Grealish, Nico O’Reilly and debutant Divin Mubama completed the rout to continue the Premier League champions’ good start to 2025.

Elsewhere, Championship leaders Leeds United edged out League Two strugglers Harrogate Town at Elland Road.
The match was goalless at half-time, but Largie Ramazani found the net with a header shortly before the hour mark to secure passage to the next round for Daniel Farke’s side.
The Championship competition between Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday went to penalties after the two teams could not be separated for 120 minutes.
Liam Kitching put Frank Lampard’s side ahead with 26 minutes remaining and held the lead until second-half stoppage time.
However, Wednesday’s Anthony Musaba popped up with the equalizer with 93 minutes on the clock to send the match into extra time.
Neither team could find a winner in the extra half hour and so the tie had to be decided by a shootout, which Coventry won 4-3.
