Manchester United has announced a “transformation plan” that could cause 200 layoffs.

The club informed the New York Stock Exchange of its intentions this morning in order to bring it back to profitability after five consecutive years of losses.

The news does not go well with supporters frustrated by progress in the field – United is 15th in the Premier League – and a series of disappointing developments.

Nearly 250 employees were dismissed last year while information this morning said that SIR Jim Ratcliffe cost reduction measures even went to the closing of the staff canteen.

Today’s declaration is read as follows: “Manchester United announces that it will transform its business structure as part of a series of additional measures to improve the club’s financial sustainability and improve operational efficiency.

“The transformation plan aims to bring the club back to profitability after five consecutive years of losses since 2019.

“Within the framework of these measures, the club provides that around 150-200 jobs can be redundant, subject to a consultation process with the employees. These would be added to the 250 roles deleted last year. »»

We have a responsibility – Berrad

United CEO, Omar Berrada, said: “We are responsible for putting Manchester United in the strongest position to win in our male, female and academic teams. We are launching a large series of measures that will transform and renew the club.

Unfortunately, this means announcing new potential redundancies and we deeply regret the impact on affected colleagues. However, these difficult choices are necessary to put the club back on a stable financial basis.

“We have lost money in the past five consecutive years. This cannot continue. Our two main priorities as a club are a success in the field for our fans and the improvement of our facilities. We cannot invest in these objectives if we are continuously losing money.

“At the end of this process, we will have a leaner, agile and financially sustainable football club, while continuing to provide world class service to our precious business partners. We will then be in a much stronger position to invest in the success of football and improved the facilities for fans, while remaining in accordance with the regulations of UEFA and the Premier League. »»

Expensive errors

United last week revealed that they had paid 4.1 million pounds sterling in hiring and dismissal of Dan Ashworth with the former sports director of the club in office for only 159 days.

They also had to pay Erik Ten Hag and his coaches of coaches of 10.4 million pounds sterling in compensation when the Dutch was dismissed in October, only three and a half months after having signed a one -year contract extension .

Ruben Amorim was appointed to Ten Hag, but the results did not improve with United by winning only four of the 15 Portuguese championship games in charge.
