This creamy fungus The chicken breast did not taste like I had cooked it, even if I did. It had the taste of my Mom cooked. But the only mother involved was the mother of all Yankees, Martha Stewart. I had simmered my chicken using a Marley Spoon meal kit.
Marley Spoon is not quite the Martha Stewart meal kit: he was founded in Germany. But it’s not not Martha Stewart’s meal kit, either. Stewart approves the brand warmly on the Marley Spoon website, many of the first recipes and techniques for the deployment of the United States came from its pantry, and the chicken with creamy mushrooms in particular was labeled as one of the “best in Martha”. (The recipe was designed, in fact, by a food author and developer of prolific recipes named Anna Painter.)

The mushroom chicken was the kind of recipe that I generally never think of making: vaguely but not at all Hungarians, with chicken pieces with a cruspity deglamed in a Dijon-Paprika chicken broth and fattened with cream cheese. As a last step, I crushed the potato bed on the plate with a multitude of spinach. It was delicious in a way that reminded me of the generation of the foods with which I grew up: sweet, rich, tangy, earthy, but not more spicy than ripe garlic. It was a bit like at home.
I worked as a food critic on two ribs for more than a decade, and I can be a hard and skeptical judge of the kitchen of the meal kit. But after days of cooking that Marley Spoon dinners, I left by feeling that Marley Spoon is the closest that I have found what a meal kit is supposed to offer – at least, if you really like to prepare a meal.
Most of my Marley Spoon meals have been fully made, house plates that just take me a little outside of my usual repertoire. Meals that may teach me a little something, but still do not take more than an hour to do.
The price is to the upper end of the world of the meal kit, around $ 9 to $ 13 a regular portion (with premium and “saves” meals available) and $ 11 on expedition. According to my experience, he supports the price, but Marley Spoon also has a budgetary option called Turn around With simpler plates, about two -thirds of the price.
Hello, Fresh
When I placed my initial order on Marley Spoon’s website, I did what I always do when I test meal kits. I allowed the website to choose my plates for me, throwing myself the mercy of the brand’s algorithm. The path of the slightest resistance may also be the path of honesty.
The result turned out to be a hearty and familiar assortment: the aforementioned creamy chicken, but also the cashew chicken on rice, a soup of the copious lens, tostadas carnitas, parm eggplant and tilapia cajun with broccoli. (Although the image of this last recipe card has rather shown broccolini, which made me want the broccolini a bit that I did not have in my box.)
