Lautaro Martinez became the top scorer of all time of Inter in the Champions League after scoring the second of his team’s two goals while the Italian team missed 2-0 winners against Feyenoord in the round of 16.

Martinez beat her 18th goal in competition at home just after half-time to overtake Sandro Mazzola while Nerazzurri took a big step to reach the last eight.

Marcus Thuram had given visitors to Rotterdam and they would have everything but seal the competition after the time that the guardian of the host Timon Wellereuther did not keep the penalty of Piotr Zielinski.

The result means that the new boss of Feyenoord, Robin Van Persie, has a monumental task in his hands at San Siro next week if the Dutch have a hope of progressing.

Inter, on the other hand, will be full of confidence in the return match as they seek to go better than in 2023 when they were beaten finalists against Manchester City.

How the action took place

During a large part of the exchange opening, the series side, offered very little threat to the future. However, all of this changed over 37 minutes when a swipe of Inter’s right hand resulted in the ball in the ball in the box.

Thuram reacted faster than the guardian and the defenders of Feyenoord, jumping into the air to search the ball in the roof of the net.

The goal seemed to trigger the life of the men of Simone Inzaghi. And, less than five minutes after the break, interbured her advance when Martinez became at close range after a little freak in the Feyenoord penalty zone.

The goal gave control of the tie and assured that Martinez becomes the scorer of all the club’s time in the competition.

But shortly after, Feyenoord presented his threat when Brighton Jakub Moder’s lender rocked the transverse bar while Van Persie’s team was desperate for a way to return to the game.

But it is Inzaghi’s team who, just after the hour mark, had the opportunity to extend their advance when Jeyland Mitchell caught the Thuram heel in the box. Var reversed the referee’s initial decision and a penalty was granted.

However, the Dutch team received a rescue buoy while Wellenreuther saved Zielinski’s kick to keep the deficit for two.

This can be an extremely significant moment, but only if Feyenoord produces something close to a miracle in Milan in six days. Again, foreign things have happened.
