This message contains spoilers For “Stargate SG-1” and “Stargate: The Ark of Truth”.
Morena Baccarin could be the best known for her role as Vanessa Carlysle in “Deadpool” and her consequences (including “Deadpool & Wolverine”), but she was also a crucial part of several major television shows over the years. From Inara Serra in “Firefly” to Leslie Thompkins in “Gotham”, Baccarin has embodied intriguing and various roles through genres since his debut on television in 2002. It is therefore not surprising that Baccarin is also part of The long and beloved “Stargate SG-1”, a series that extended the premise of “Stargate” by Roland Emmerich (Stargate “(The 1994 science fiction adventure film which was originally intended to launch an entire trilogy).
As a quick refreshment, “Stargate SG-1” revolves around the eponymous team, which uses gate-type devices called Stargates to go to distant worlds through the galaxy. During their adventures, the crew of the SG-1 meets different extraterrestrial species, including OR (now an end), which were known for their unlimited knowledge and capacities. Baccarine plays Adria, an Or / Human hybrid which is introduced in The 10th and last season of “Stargate SG-1”.
To understand the role of Adria in “Stargate SG-1”, we must provide a vital context. Val Mal Doran (Claudia Black) was chosen as host by Ori, who sought to create a genetically powerful child nicknamed orici. This child would represent their will through the galaxy, helping to spread their religious doctrine in a way that he could never. After Val gave birth to the orici, she named her Adria, who aged at an accelerated pace and was returned in an adult in a few days. While Adria fulfilled the aspects of the “chosen” trope, we must remember that the Ori are religious fanatics which deny free will to establish their faith as a path intended. The prior of the Ori called a “lighthouse of light in the dark, to the warriors of the Ori, and to all those who follow the true path of salvation”, but this proclamation excludes all those who doesn’t Follow Or OR and their religion.
The Adria de Morena Baccarin embodies an undeniable faith in Stargate SG-1
As Adria was generatedly modified to climb as a Orici, she grew up to be obsessively devoted to the Or Ori cause and wanted to convert everyone from the Milky Way, regardless of the cost. In her mind, the unshakable faith justifies violence, because it often ordered that entire populations were destroyed if they did not kiss the teachings of its species. This overtaking led him to develop a plan to destroy the ancients (another ascended breed, more powerful than the Ori) and to use Dr Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) like a pawn. However, Dr. Jackson allowed the SG-1 crew to intervene and attack Adria. Meanwhile, a holy weapon which was able to destroy the ascending beings (known as the Sangraal) was used to neutralize the Ori.
“Stargate SG-1” draws strongly from mythology and legend to weave the Arc Ori, and that culminates in the following film “Stargate: The Ark of Truth”, in which Adria emerges as the main antagonist. We will be here all day if we examine the precipitated and heavy events in this film by Robert C. Cooper, but history ends with Adria seriously weakened and engaged in an eternal battle of the former Lantean Morgan Le Fay (Sarah Strange ). This puts an end to the threat posed by the dangerous figure of the Baccarin Messiah, whose mission of life was to covet the power disproportionate by the belief of those who aligned themselves with the teachings of Ori.
But what did Baccarin have to say about reading such a complex and uncompromising character? In a 2006 interview with The Scifi worldThe actor weighed on the evil nature of Adria and how his megalomaniac perspectives have colored his immediate reality:
“I shot an episode [for ‘Stargate SG-1’]Leaving two more next week. I love the character, she is really bad. The worst types of people are those who are not accepted and it is one of them. What she believes is the Word of God […] I like the nuances of evil. I also try to be sympathetic. It is an interesting combination. “”
“Stargate SG-1” is currently streaming as part of the MGM + subscription of Prime Video.
