Nelly explains her decision to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration
Previously, The Shade Room reported that Nelly was scheduled to perform at Donald Trump’s inaugural ball on Monday, January 20. The news first broke when CBS reporter Taurean Smalls shared it on X (formerly Twitter) on January 17.
Now, the St. Louis emcee is explaining his decision to participate in Donnie’s celebration. Nelly joined the rapper Willie D. for a conversation on YouTube, where he expressed his choice – sparking many reactions on social networks.
In the video interview, Nelly made it clear that he would not perform at Trump’s inaugural ball for money.
“I don’t do this for the money. I do this because it’s a [honor]. I respect the office. It doesn’t matter who is in power. Just as our men and women, our brothers and sisters who protect this country must go to war and risk their lives for whoever is in power. So if they can put their lives on the line for whoever is in power, I can definitely perform for whoever is in power,” Nelly explained.
Willie D also pointed out all the backlash Nelly has received since it was announced he was part of the inaugural prom roster. He even asked Nelly how he would respond to people who accused him of supporting a white supremacist. But the rapper bluntly said he needs proof that Donald Trump is a white supremacist. “I would ask them to show me where he is a white supremacist,” Nellie added.
