Once the general debauchery of New Year’s Eve has passed, everyone faces the morning with the same challenge: living up to the ambitious resolutions we made the day before. “New year, new me” is easy enough to say out loud, but even those who enjoy keeping their resolutions find themselves faced with a difficult question: Where the hell can you learn enough to become a better person this year? Fortunately, the answer is simpler than you think. All you have to do is stream The right place on Netflix for one hilarious lesson after another on how to become a better person.
The plot of the good place
Long before The right place landed on Netflix, it impressed NBC audiences with its very unique premise. We follow a character who is sent to “The Good Place” after his death despite knowing full well that he doesn’t deserve an eternity in sitcom heaven. Deciding to fake it until she makes it, she decides to learn more about being a good person, but all the philosophical and ethical knowledge in the world can’t prepare her for the twists and turns her life takes. after death is about to take.
The right place tore up the charts on Netflix thanks to its excellent cast, including Kristen Bell (best known for Véronique Mars) like the woman apparently sent to Heaven by mistake. William Jackson Harper (who has been in everything since Midday has Ant Man and the wasp: Quantumania) plays his ethics professor, and their quartet is completed by She-Hulk veteran Jameela Jamil (who plays a party girl) and Acolyte veteran Manny Jacinto. Meanwhile, they meet two new allies The right place: a charismatic architect played by Ted Dansen and a sort of walking Wikipedia, talking (not to mention omnisty) played by D’Arcy Carden.
One of the best comedy shows
Once you look The right place on Netflix, you’ll better understand why many (including us!) consider it one of the best-written shows of the entire golden age of television. The short seasons planned well in advance mean that the series has great arcs for each character and many more twists and turns than you might imagine based on its premise. Furthermore, even though he didn’t win almost enough for our taste, The right place was a true awards darling, racking up 14 Primetime Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nominations while winning a Peabody as well as four Hugo Awards.
And now a new generation of fans is coming to see us The right place on Netflix, they learn that it lives up to its critical reputation. On Rotten Tomatoesthe show has an impressive critical rating of 97 percent and an audience rating (via Popcornmeter) of 89 percent. It’s an incredible show to watch for the first time and even more rewarding to watch again, and the series’ stunning and ambitious storytelling stands out all the more in a time when most shows (especially those exclusive to streaming) are canceled before they can complete their race.
Will you find The right place as heavenly as we did after streaming it on Netflix, or will you decide this is the kind of series only a Bad Janet could appreciate? You won’t know until you stream it yourself, starting the new year with a bang. Be careful though: after a few episodes of this lively sitcom, other TV comedies will seem straight from The Bad Place.
