New developer Old Glory Studios today announced the launch of its new crowdfunding campaign, in partnership with Folla Capital, LLC. The studio, founded by military veterans who have previously worked on titles such as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and The Division, plans to develop military-based titles, with its launch game being team-based PvP shooter Victory’s Grave : Outflank. To build this title, Old Glory has launched a “Regulation Crowdfunding” campaign, which will give investors equity in the studio.
According to its founders, Old Glory will use the funds to build Victory’s Grave, with a minimum investment of $500 and an ultimate goal of $1,235,000. They offer SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) interests, which will be used for “cutting-edge production, innovative marketing campaigns and key operational expansions” of the game, according to Folla campaign page.
Old Glory operates as a cloverleaf organization, according to its founders. It will feature a core team – Old Glory co-founders Lewis Manalo and Matt Patak – with specialist tasks outsourced to freelancers. Patak and Manalo, the studio’s creative director and executive producer respectively, told GamesBeat that the studio already has a playable prototype of Victory’s Grave complete.
Crowdfunding regulation and building a different military shooter
Manalo and Patak told GamesBeat in an interview that the unique element of Victory’s Grave: Outflank is its tactical element. Patak said the game’s RTS features add a new level of strategy to the gameplay: “Each playthrough will be a new and unique experience, allowing for maximum replayability.” The game’s execution will exaggerate the realism without losing the feeling of authenticity. The studio also already has follow-up plans in place.
Manalo added that part of the impetus behind the game came from his work on Ghost Recon: Wildlands. “[That] was the very first AAA game I wrote about, and when it came out I was shocked to learn that not everyone enjoys playing narrative campaigns. Some people have only played open world, and others have only played PvP… Our vision is to produce these game modes as separate titles that share a story. This reduces our risk as a studio and will save players money while still providing them with every possible experience. Victory’s Grave: Outflank is the PvP game.
Manalo told GamesBeat in an interview that Old Glory felt crowdfunding was the most beneficial option for the studio’s unusual cloverleaf structure. “Crowdfunding regulations, unique in the United States, allow us to raise capital directly from investors. Unlike pledge-based crowdfunding, in which people essentially buy a product up front, investors in a Reg CF get equity in the company. It’s become quite common for many companies, and there’s no reason why game studios shouldn’t use it as well.
John Panaccione, partner at Folla Capital, said in a statement: “This initiative represents a unique opportunity for investors to back a veteran-led company with a clear roadmap for success in the gaming industry. Support Old Glory Studios isn’t just about potential financial returns; it’s about being part of a team that pushes the boundaries in storytelling and game design.
