An unusual gift during the pandemic turned into an opportunity in gold for Sumanbai Gaikwad, a farmer from the village of Bhosi in Bhokar Taluka, Telangana. With only ten young trees of the most expensive mango in the world, its modest farm has now become the discourse of the region – and perhaps a future fruit empire.
Sumanbai arrived at the district agriculture and grain festival 2025 on March 17 with a woven basket of Miyazaki mangoes, attracting instant attention. Known for their rich taste and vibrant red shade, these exotic mangoes can go up to 10,000 ₹ each.
His trip started with his son Nandkishore Gaikwad, an UPSC aspirant whose studies were disturbed by the COVVI-19 locking. Forced to go home from Pune, he came across the Miyazaki variety while traveling online.
Curious and determined, Nandkishore imported ten young trees from the Philippines, paying 6,500 ₹ per plant. Planted two years ago, they now bore 11 to 12 fruits this season, according to a report by Etv Bharat.
Find the cheap
To assess the harvest with precision, Nandkishore consulted Warpudkar, a renowned Miyazaki farmer from Parbhani, who advised the 10,000 ₹ by evaluation of the mango. The buzz at the fair has aroused the interest of local farmers who now envisage this premium fruit company.
Held in Nanded, the Agriiary Fair – supported by the collector’s office, Zilla Parishad and the Department of Agriculture – has obtained 29 progressive farmers using modern and sustainable techniques. “Agriculture offers immense opportunities for those who wish to innovate,” said collector Rahul Kardile.
The fair included 82 stands, with everything from organic products to plant -based supplements.
Why the Miyazaki mangoes count
Miyazaki mangoes are distinguished by their beta -carotene, their folic acid, their vitamin C content and their content in vitamin A – offering a profile rich in nutrients, in immune boosting and adapted to the skin. Despite their softness, they maintain a balanced sugar level, making it an instant energy source.
For Sumanbai, what has started as an experience as a thread is now a flourishing company – to the test that the seeds of innovation can indeed bear fruit.
