During an interview with KOIN News Tuesday before his team’s Rose Bowl game against Ohio StateGabriel described his ideal vision of the conditions in which his games should be played and questioned the notion of playing in the snow and rain.
“We like warm weather. I think we should play more football on nice turf rather than artificial turf. And the more sun the better. Why do we do it ourselves? Do fans want to sit in the snow and rain?” Gabriel said. “Let’s just make arenas. Let’s make domes. Let’s make grass. Let’s make more fireworks at games.”

Gabriel didn’t even rule out supporting the hypothesis that all college football games would be played in Hawaii.
“I don’t think anyone would be mad at the idea,” Gabriel, a Hawaii native, said of the idea. “Let’s find more sun.”
Gabriel, who is finishing his sixth season of college football, has been one of the best quarterbacks this season. Gabriel was named a first-team All-American, Big 10 MVP, and Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year in 2024.
