A London -based technician recently went to social networks to decode the real value of the IIT label outside India. He said he had received a message from a job seeker looking for a reference for an artificial intelligence role (AI).
The technician, identified as Kunal Kushwaha, noted that candidates can ignore what distinguishes them in their job requests if they focus mainly on the name of their college.
“I received a message today which started with” I am a former student of Iit “and asked for a reference for a role of AI. I understand how difficult work can be.
The technician also said that even the top Iit have students who are unable to find investments. “Even the top Iit have students who find it difficult to place. What really stands out is your work, the projects you have built, the problems you have solved, your passion for the field,” he added.
He also said that it was dangerous to think that a university label would make a difference outside India. “But it is dangerous to think that your university label will make the difference, maybe it always has weight in India, but not if you are targeting remote roles in global companies.”
He said that outside India, no one really cares about the Iit label. “I live in London now, I am around the world and I have friends in companies of all sizes. And honestly, outside India, nobody cares about your Iit label. Just a slight suggestion, head with your work, not just the name.”
The techie post has left divided internet users, some agreeing with the user and others saying that the Iit tag has value.
“It is logical to contact if the person is from the same university. The acceptance rate is much higher when there is a relatable connection; otherwise, it is not very effective,” wrote a user.
“Agree with everything, except in unnecessarily dissolution of the Iit tag. The people of the bay region know it and appreciate it. This can almost change the whole tone of a conversation,” said a second user.
“It is.
“Having Iit in his title, tells you that this person is already working enough to take the exam. The work may not be so good but it is for later. For an opening message, this person played on his sales / arguments of sale. Nothing wrong at the OMI. What would be an excellent title, in your opinion, to make you open the message and connect?” A fourth user asked.
