Philadelphia’s Democratic mayor responds to mockery for spelling Eagles wrong during speech

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker responded to widespread ridicule she faced when she spelled it wrong the name of the Eagles’ hometown during a speech Sunday.

During a song to celebrate the team’s playoff runthe Democratic mayor attempted to do the signature fan chant while spelling out the team name. However, she spelled it “ELGSES”.

Parker addressed the mistake during a press conference Tuesday.

“We don’t promise perfection, I’m so glad I never did,” Parker told reporters. “Especially after I couldn’t spell Eagles correctly.”

The journalists present laughed in response.

The Democrat’s misspelling has already been made into a T-shirt by independent Philadelphia sportswear company “Philly Goat.”

Parker is serving her first term as mayor of the city after winning the 2023 mayoral election, becoming the first female mayor in the city’s history when she defeated Republican Joe Rockey.

Parker served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2005 to 2015 and then on the Philadelphia City Council from 2015 to 2022.

The Eagles will face their rivals Washington Commanders in Philadelphia on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game for the right to advance to the Super Bowl.
