A small plane crashed on a road in São Paulo, Brazil, around 7:20 am local Friday, killing the two people on board and injuring several people on the ground, according to the city’s fire service.

Six people suffered minor injuries and were not in serious condition. One of them was a motorcyclist who was passing. The other five were passengers on a bus that was struck by part of the plane, according to Captain Ronaldo Melo, spokesperson for the São Paulo fire service.

The firefighters arrived on the scene just before 7:30 am, finding the plane and the bus on fire, said Captain Melo. “The fire was very aggressive,” he added. Bus passengers had all escaped the vehicle before the fire starts, he said.

Videos on social networks have shown the remains of the plane in flames, as well as a large black plume of smoke rising in the air.

We do not know what caused the incident, but the plane seemed to have crashed shortly after takeoff. He struck the Avenida Marques de São Vicente, a high road in the district of Barra Funda, about four kilometers from Campo de Marte airport, where the plane took off.

The plane was on the way to Porto Alegre, nearly 700 miles south of São Paulo.

About three hours after the accident, the fire service had left the scene, said Captain Melo.
