The United States legislators expressed sympathy and sorrow after a passenger plane collided with a military helicopter near National Reagan Airport In the Washington region, DC, Wednesday evening.
A regional jet Bombardier CRJ700 from PSA Airlines operating like an American Airlines flight collided in the air with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter approaching Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, around 9 p.m. Local, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The flight left Wichita, Kansas, earlier during the day.
The flight of passengers was carrying 60 people, but the officials did not confirm the exact number of injuries and deaths. Defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, who started working on Monday, said he was aware of the incident in a position on X.
“The DOD actively watched,” HegSeth’s tweet read. “Ready to help if necessary. Prayers for all those involved.”
Transport Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that he was in the FAA building and investigating the incident. The White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared a message from the president Donald Trump Wednesday evening.
“I was fully informed of the terrible accident that has just occurred at Reagan National Airport,” the statement said. “May God bless their souls. Thank you for the incredible work accomplished by our first speakers. I monitor the situation and I will provide more details as they arise.”
Representative Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., Said her pain after hearing about the accident.
“Our prayers are with all the families affected by the tragic plane crash that took place here in DC,” read Luna’s post. “Incredibly heartbreaking.”
Virginia LT. Gov. WinSome Earle-Sears said that she kept all the people affected in her prayers.

“My office follows the new and tragic news of a collision at @REagag_Airport,” wrote Lieutenant-Governor. “We pray for the victims, the first rescuers and all the people affected.”
Internal security secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X that she “deployed all the available resources of the American Coast Guard for research and rescue efforts in this horrible incident in DCA”.
“We are actively monitoring the situation and we are ready to support local stakeholders,” wrote the former governor of southern Dakota. “Pray for the victims and the first speakers.”
