Real Madrid “think they can get what they want” and have “insulted” Liverpool over Trent Alexander-Arnold, Gary Neville has said.

According to numerous reports, Madrid, the reigning Spanish and European champions, have made a move in favor of Alexander Arnold, who joined the Reds’ academy in 2004 but is out of contract at the end of the season.

“This offer comes at the wrong time for him,” former Manchester United captain Neville told Sky Sports after Alexander-Arnold’s defensive performance came under scrutiny during his side’s match. 2-2 home draw against the Red Devils in the Premier League on Sunday.

“If you’ve got that, going to a big game and you’re a local boy, it’s not going to be easy, with all the noise. Real Madrid are one hell of an animal.

“I thought it was insulting for Real Madrid to behave like this. They behave like this sometimes and think they can get what they want.

Slot machine: Alexander-Arnold “didn’t have the best game”

United, arrived 13 places and 23 points behind the championship leadersconcentrated most of its attacks on right-back Alexander-Arnold’s flank, scoring both of its goals from that side.

The 26-year-old England international was replaced by Conor Bradley four minutes after Amad Diallo equalized with United’s second goal.

“Trent played mostly good games for this club, but there were games where he was not at his best,” Liverpool manager Arne Slot said.

“Today wasn’t his best match, but that was probably due to [United] Also. It’s also due to Bruno Fernandes, who is a very, very good player and who played well.

“[Diogo] Dalot was a threat on the left. It is not always easy to prevent them from ending up in dangerous situations.

“Especially in the first half, sometimes Ryan [Gravenberch] was not close enough to [Alexander-Arnold]so it was a 2v1 situation at times. I would focus more on the quality of Dalot and Bruno Fernandes than Trent.

Madrid “takes the mickey”

Former Three Lions right-back Neville said the speculation “wouldn’t have been helpful” to Alexander-Arnold. “Liverpool are a club of immense stature and they will never sell [him] for £20m in January,” he added.

“You take the Mickey, a little bit. I imagine that would have pissed him off. You can imagine his family and his agent all saying, “What’s going on, Trent? »

Alexander-Arnold has started 22 of Liverpool’s 24 Premier League and Champions League matches in 2024/25.
