THE Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) announced this week that he collaborated with the developer of Games Indie Ink Stories to create his first video game: a title of thriller entitled Lili, a modern reimagination in the history of Lady Macbeth taking place in contemporary Iran . He features Zar Amir as a tragic femme fatale of the Bard and allows players to push her in certain life choices while playing his story. The RSC and the Incre plan to launch the game later in 2025.
Vassiliki Khonsari, co-founder of Ink stories, said in a press release: “The partnership between Ink Stories and the Royal Shakespeare Company is a historic collaboration, bringing together two creative forces to unlock the deep potential to adapt the chiefs ‘Shakespeare’s timeless work for contemporary audiences. It pushes the limits of narration, marking an inflection point in the depth of expression in commercial video games and expanding the creative vision of the RSC in a new interactive territory. »»
Lili tells her story inspired by Lady Macbeth through the screens, while the players follow the character through security cameras and personal devices. The three witches are reinvented as pirates, putting the player themselves in a position to see the life of Lady Macbeth and to influence his decisions. The game presents live action scenes with Amir, which also co -produced via Alambic production.
Emma Smith, a member of the RSC board of directors who worked on the adaptation of the game text to the game, added: “Lili takes the exploration by the character of Shakespeare of political ambition, personal compromises and distorted human lives under tyranny, and transports these themes to contemporary Iran. He is both completely Shakespearean and radically defamiliated. Forget the old chestnut that Shakespeare would write for Hollywood if he was alive now: what Lili shows absolutely clearly is – he writes for the game. “
