Promoter Oscar De La Hoya says he doesn’t see the “need” for Ryan Garcia to fight Devin Haney again in a rematch. He states that Garcia already “destroyed” Haney in their fight last year and that there are better fighters for him, like Teofimo Lopez.

Haney’s whining

Haney (31-0, 15 KO) constantly complains about his loss and blames it on Ryan’s positive test for the banned substance Ostarine. He uses this as an excuse for his failure in defeat.

If Devin really believes this, it’s strange that he would want a rematch. Why not move on if he thinks Garcia is a “cheater.”

With the way Haney disparaged Ryan, he should forget about him on principle. This is what Canelo Alvarez would do if he was constantly beaten by someone he beats. Kingry should follow suit.

During De La Hoya’s career, he would not give a fighter a rematch if he beat him as soundly as Ryan did with Haney. Oscar would move on and not fight an unnecessary rematch.

Obviously the money Haney would make fighting other guys wouldn’t be as good as it would be in a rematch. Ryan (24-1, 20 KO) is a star and no one Haney can fight at 140 or 147 comes close to him.

Bigger fights

De La Hoya is right that Garcia doesn’t need a rematch because he whipped Haney hard. There’s more money for Ryan fighting these guys:

Gervonta Davis
Teofimo Lopez
Jaron Ennis
Shakur Stevenson

“If Ryan Garcia wants it and that’s what he wants,” Oscar De La Hoya told Fight Hub TV when asked what he thought about a rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney in 2025. “Me personally, I don’t see the need for it. Ryan destroyed itand that’s the main thing.

“We have to make the best fights possible. There are fighters here like Teofimo. There are fighters that we can pair Ryan with with anyone and have a great event.

“Yeah, absolutely. If they [Ryan and Teofimo] are the best right now, and that’s what people want to see, we have to make it happen. This sounds like a broken record here, but I was once a fighter. I’m a promoter now, but I want to see the best fight the best,” De La Hoya said.
