Union Minister Kiren Rijiju shared a video of a group of tourists stranded at Arunachal Pradesh’s Sela Pass. According to the video shared by Rijiju, the tourists fell into extremely cold waters after the ice of a frozen lake cracked.

Sharing the 51-second video, Rijiju said on X, “At the Sela Pass in Arunachal Pradesh. My advice to tourists: walk on frozen lakes with experienced people, drive carefully on slippery snowy roads and watch out for snow avalanches. frozen, so wear warm clothes and enjoy. Your safety is important.

The sudden collapse caused panic, but a major accident was avoided thanks to the quick action of bystanders. Armed with bamboo sticks, they managed to save the tourists.

The video went viral on social media, with netizens urging tourists to make safety their top priority. One user said: “Excessive enthusiasm and lack of knowledge of the local terrain most often proves fatal. They were lucky!

“Please provide a warning sign that should be present for people’s safety (sic),” a second user said. “A mad, unregulated rush of tourists into pristine states is a disaster in the making…will affect the people and nature of the mountains…Strict policy and regulated numbers are needed,” another user wrote.

Some users also shared their experiences at Sela Pass and elsewhere.

“My personal experience of this place…as soon as people go there they become more adventurous and try to go as far as possible like in a competition…a few people fell in the water even during our visit last year,” one user commented.

“Sir, this happened to me in Ladakh, at the junction of the Indus and Zanskar. It was around Christmas and the river had frozen. I started walking on it, then the ice broke and I “dive into the freezing water luckily my dad and brother pulled me out safe and sound,” another user wrote.
