A higher figure in the Intelligence Service of Ukraine (SBU) was arrested for suspicion of work as a Russian agent.
The service did not appoint the man who, according to him, was the chief of staff of his anti-terrorist center, but the Ukrainian media citing sources in the SBU say that he is Col Dmytro Kozyura.
Local media showed him handcuffed during the arrest by the head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk.
A press release said there were at least 14 cases in which the suspect, whom he described as a “rat”, had collected and transmitted information to Russia. The SBU said that the survey involved audio and video surveillance, as well as access to mobile phones and computers.
Since Russia’s large -scale invasion in February 2022, Ukraine has announced many operations to exhibit Russian agents on its soil.
Malyuk had been personally involved in the suspect’s investigation and had led the operation to arrest him, said the SBU press release, adding that he had reported his progress to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
He said that the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia had recruited him in Vienna in 2018. He was “enlightened” for several years and that his managers did not take up contact with him last December.
“Thanks to the signs of the encrypted program, we have entered the traitor gadgets – mobile terminals, computers,” Malyuk said in a video press release published on the SBU website.
“We have mainly lived with him, carried out audio and video surveillance.
Malyuk added that SBU had fueled Moscow’s disinformation during the investigation.
“The autonomy of SBU continues. No matter how the enemy is trying to penetrate our ranks … It will not be able to do it successfully. Because we detect them in a timely manner, will document them and hold them.”
