Anna Nordqvist excluded the possibility of being a captain for the Europe team at the Solheim Cup and insists that she will bring her own style to the role of the 2026 competition.
The Swedish was confirmed as captain of Europe for the next edition – held at the Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands – and succeeds Suzann Pettersen, who occupied the role of successive solheim cuts.
Nordqvist appeared in each of the nine previous solheim cuts as a player and was vice-captain playing for the last two competitions, including for Europe 15.5-12.5 defeat to the American team Last September.
A 10th Solheim Cup as a player would have raised Nordqvist solo second in the list of appearance of all time in Europe and in both of the record of Lady Laura Davies, although the 37 -year -old thinks that focusing on the captain This time is the best decision.
“I knew I wanted to be part of the Solheim Cup, like one way or another,” said Nordqivst Sky Sports golf podcast. “I do not take my retirement, but obviously accept this role means that I will be captain and not play.
“I was interested because I wanted to do this at a time in my career when I can still be there [competing] And I always know the players, the coaches, the caddies and everyone, because I wanted to be accessible.

“I think that the prospect of my life has changed a little like the last two years and you just have to do things you want to do. Life is short and played in my 10th will really make a bigger difference where I can do A very big difference as a captain? “
Nordqvist always participates regularly in the LPGA tour and is currently in the top 100 of the world, leaving its qualifications to represent the Europe team a possibility, although it feels satisfied if its career of the Solheim Cup if the appearance in 2024 was his last.
“There is a chance that I can automatically qualify if I have two good years on tour, but I got into this position because I want to do a good job,” added Nordqvist.
“As vice-captain of the game, you are already taking a little success and know that there is so much that you have to do.
“I am happy and, having played in nine years, I am extremely proud of this part of my career. I would like to do a good job and I think I need in this role.”
What kind of Nordqvist captain will they be?
The defeat of last September put an end to a series of European dominance in the Solheim Cup, Catriona Matthew guiding them to consecutive victories before Pettersen put in Europe to a dramatic equality of 14-14 in Spain in 2023.
When he was asked about the style of Captain Nordqvist intends to do so, she admitted: “I think I am definitely more towards Beanie [Matthew]! I think I’m a little calmer, calm.
“Suzanne carries her heart on her round and I think she is the best competitor we have never had on tour. She took a little time to find her way and she was very different as captain and Spain that ‘at DC.
“I had the impression that she looked much more like DC, not asking everyone for thoughts and opinions. She was just doing her race, that I think I admit about her. The Beanie was just a little relaxed, but was able to incorporate many more routines that we now implement each Solheim cut.
“There are so many things that I admire about all the different captains. I think that at the end of the day, you can learn and you can try to implement things, but I think the most Important is just that I try to be myself. “
