Sunil Bharti Mittal, founder and president of Bharti Enterprises, received the commander of the knight of the most excellent order of the British Empire (KBE) in recognition of his contributions to the trade relations of the United Kingdom-India on February 22.
The medal was presented during an official inauguration ceremony at the British High Commissioner in New Delhi, which his family and close associates attended. The honorary chivalry was announced in 2024 with the approval of King Charles III.
Lindy Cameron, British High Commissioner in India, said: “I was delighted to present Sunil Bharti Mittal La Medal Kbe on behalf of His Majesty the King. Mittal is a great friend of the United Kingdom – with significant investments, including BT, Gleneagles, Norlake Hospitality and Oneweb. Mittal leadership had a lasting impact on the British partnership in India, including through its work with the CEO of India-UK. More recently, he led an Indian commercial delegation to the United Kingdom to meet the Prime Minister Starmer, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Chancellor and other cabinet ministers to identify the possibilities of accelerating economic growth in both nations . I can’t wait to continue working closely with Mittal and congratulate it once again. »»
Receiving the honor, Mittal said: “It is an honor to have received the Kbe from His Majesty, King Charles III. While India and the United Kingdom continue to draw a remarkable scale in our bilateral relations, I recognize this recognition both as a privilege and a responsibility. I remain determined to work with stakeholders in our countries to advance India – British trade relations. On the occasion of this very special step, I extend my gratitude to everyone for their support throughout this trip. »»
