The third human to receive a Neur cerebral implantWho also has a non -verbal SLA, is now able to talk about his own voice thanks to progression technology combined with artificial intelligence (AI).
Brad Smith declared in a video on X that even if the disease “is zero”, he is happy, and God responded to his prayers and “life is beautiful”. He also talked about his trip with the ALS and the hope that was given to him after having become the third human to receive a neurlink brain transplant.
Neuralink, which was launched by the billionaire Elon Musksaid in a blog post in January that there are three people with telepathy, including “Brad”.
“The three individuals are unable to move their arms and legs – Noland and Alex because of a spinal cord injury (SCI) and Brad due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (SLA),” said post. “They all volunteered to participate in the main study of Neuralink, a clinical trial to demonstrate that the link is safe and useful in the daily life of people living with paralysis.”

Smith is unable to speak or move part of his body, in addition to the corners of his mouth and his eyes.
In the video he shared on X, Smith said he was based on the Neuralink implant for any communication, adding that he had made the video using the Brain Computer (BCI) interface to control the mouse on his MacBook Pro.
The voice in the video is hers, and she was cloned using the AI of the recordings, before losing her voice.
While explaining how Neurralink had an impact on his life, Smith gave an overview of the functioning of technology, but he also explained how he found himself in his current status.
“I have ALS, a truly strange disease that kills the motor neurons that control my muscles, but do not affect my mind,” he said. “My experience was quite interesting, starting with a shoulder injury that would not heal and would not end with my current status. I can only move my eyes and I am totally dependent on a fan to keep myself alive and breathe.”

Before receiving the implant, Smith said he had to use an eye control computer for all communications. But it worked better in dark rooms, and he said he was essentially Batman because he was stuck in a dark room.
“Neuralink allows me to go out and ignore the lighting changes,” he said. “The implant is in my engine cortex, which is the part of my brain which controls the movement of the body.”
An image of the implant showed a device the size of five stacked American quarters.
Smith said he had replaced a hole in his skull, and the wires were placed a few millimeters in his brain with a robot, avoiding blood vessels, so there is almost no bleeding.
Once connected, the device communicates with a computer using Bluetooth and the computer is “a lot of processing”, according to Smith.

He then showed a video of the data from the 1,024 electrodes in his brain.
The data and technology allow Smith to communicate using a computer, and it spends time training it by moving a cursor on the computer screen. It has also created features that facilitate communication and IT.
“I created a keyboard using the Mac accessibility keyboard to make certain keys easy to use,” said Smith. “Things like select everyone, copy, paste, cancel and the means to navigate the page are all very useful. And I can use the toolbar and some shortcuts.”
But the most difficult thing to have ALS, he added, is to think faster than he can type. He therefore worked with the Neuralink team to create a cat application that uses AI to listen to the conversation and produce options to say in the form of answers.

“He uses Grok 3 and an AI clone From my old voice to generate options for me to say: “Smith said.” It’s not perfect, but it keeps me in conversation, and he proceeds good ideas.
“My friend asked me for ideas for her girlfriend who loves horses. I chose the option that told him in my voice to make a bouquet of carrots,” he continued. “What creative and funny idea. We are also working on a faster way to type with the cursor.”
In the end, Smith said that his experience with Neuralink had been “fantastic” because she improved her life.
He also said he was happy to be involved in something that will help many people.

“Don’t get me wrong, Als is always really bad, but I’m talking about the overview. This is what I learned,” he said. “God loves me and me my family. He responded to our prayers unexpectedly. He blessed my children and our family.
“So, I learn to trust that God knows what he is doing,” added Smith, before turning to his wife Tiffany and his children. “Overview is that I am happy. Tiffany is the greatest person I have ever known, and I can spend eternity with her. My children are doing well, especially in circumstances. And I can control the computer with telepathy. Life is beautiful.”
