Tiger Woods and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan published a statement saying that they are “engaged in the reunification of golf” after a work session at the White House with President Donald Trump.
On Thursday, the Governor of the PIF and the golf manager of Liv, Yasir al-Rumayyan, and the director of PGA players, Adam Scott.
“We have just concluded a constructive work session at the White House with President Trump and Yasir al-Rumayyan, read a statement by Monahan, Woods and Scott.
“Thanks to the management of President Trump, we launched a discussion on the reunification of golf. We are committed to getting around as quickly as possible and sharing additional details, if applicable.
“We share a passion for the game and the importance of reunification. Most importantly, we all want the best players in the world to play more often together and we are committed to doing our best to provide this result for our fans. “”
President Trump himself had previously commented that he had “interesting discussions” in the context of efforts to resolve a schism in the professional golf between the PGA Tour and the Liv golf supported by Saoudie.
Trump, who has become more deeply involved in the attempt to finish the division of years in professional golf, appeared in the White House for an event in the month of black history after the meeting with Woods on stage carrying his presidential medal Freedom, while Monahan and 2013 the champion of masters Scott was in the crowd.
“I always tried to swing like Adam. It never worked in this way,” said Trump, adding that he “had interesting discussions” with golfers.
The PGA Tour previously declared on February 6 than after a meeting with Trump, it was closer to conclude an agreement with the public investment fund, the Saudi supporters of Golf Liv.
Woods, 15 times a major winner, worked with Scott and Monahan on the issue, but missed the initial meeting because his mother had died recently.
“I think things will heal quickly,” Woods said on Sunday during the CBS broadcast of the Genesis Invitational Tournament in Torrey Pines, California.
Liv Golf has attracted some of the best golfers in the world after its creation in 2021. The best Liv and PGA Tour players are only played several times a year.
Trump played golf with Woods on February 9 in his club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Trump awarded Woods the presidential liberty medal in 2019.
