More than 35 years later, DC returns to the world of “Batman” by Tim Burton for a brand new adventure. Although we are not going to see Michael Keaton again oppose the Caped Crusader on screen, Penguin Random House publishes a brand new novel entitled “Batman: Revolution” which takes place in the continuity of Burton films. In particular, this new book will present a new version of a classic villain – Le Riddler.

Written by John Jackson Miller, this new novel serves last year’s follow -up “Batman: Resurrection, “who filled the gaps between” Batman “and” Batman returns “. As was revealed for the first time by Comicbook.com“Revolution” should strike the shelves on October 28, 2025 and will also seek to fill certain gaps in the Burton universe. The synopsis of the novel helps to settle the table for what is happening at this stage of Gotham City:

It’s summer, and Gotham City has a cause of celebration. The latest vestiges of the Joker’s toxic heritage have finally disappeared, just in time so that the mayor joined forces with the retail magnate Max Shreck to organize a celebration of July 4 for the ages. But not everyone is delighted. Batman’s eternal vigilance continues while the threats of rival gangs and masked criminals are increasing day by day. Meanwhile, in the streets, demonstrations develop in opposition to the sumptuous excesses of the city.

No one knows the struggle between Gotham’s optimism and doubt more than Norman Pinkus. The humble boy of Gotham Globe, he is the brain not recognized behind the mega-popular enigma of the newspaper. But Norman is home to a secret. He is the smartest man in Gotham City, using his prodigious skills to resolve crimes anonymously for years via the line of police advice – before Batman even knows that there is a crime to be resolved.

Jim Carrey played Riddler in “Batman Forever” in 1995 ,,,,,, which was led by Joel Schumacher as opposed to Burton. Warner Bros. decided to chase a lighter tone after “Batman Returns” took things in a darker direction, so even if we could never see what Burton could have done with Riddler, Miller serves us a vision of what it could have looked like.

An alternative universe for Batman by Michael Keaton

“Batman” of 1989 was a hit Smash at the Seminal Box-OfficeBut Burton’s vision finally faced Warner Bros. ‘Desire to continue this success more. The two parties have therefore evolved and the franchise “Batman” went in a radically different direction, Schumacher also leading the very malignant “Batman & Robin” of 1997.

However, the weather was nice to Burton’s films and many fans still hold them in high esteem. As a result, this universe has been revisited several times in recent years. Batman de Keaton even returned to “The Flash” of 2023. That makes these novels of interesting time capsules, allowing us to imagine “What if?” Scenarios for Keaton Bruce Wayne. The long synopsis of “Revolution” also explains what leads Norman Pinkus to become the Riddler.

Although neither fame nor fortune finds Norman, he believes in the promise of Gotham and what is good … until he does not do it. The man that no one noticed many times when the city and his leaders cast his eyes above the roofs towards Batman. Dejected and little appreciated, Norman designs a diagram: with the help of dangerous new friends, he exploits the simmer tensions of the long hot summer to attract the Caped Crusader in a volatile rdddles game to top the real Gotham Savior. As they face, Norman – now known as Riddler – and Batman will discover secrets hidden on the past of Gotham which will have disastrous consequences for the future of the city.

It looks like a fairly unique vision of the character, and which is different from what we have seen on the big screen. The version of Riddler Paul Dano played in “The Batman” of 2022To put it slightly, and it looks like a socket which, tonally, could sit comfortably in the Burton versa. We will see how everything will meet when the book will release shelves later this year.
