Tim David’s explosive half-century led the Hobart Hurricanes to a five-wicket victory over the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday. Chasing an ambitious target of 187, the Hurricanes recovered from a difficult start thanks to David’s exploits in the passing middle, securing their fourth victory in five matches.
Hurricanes get off to a good start
The Hurricanes got off to a quick start, thanks to an aggressive opening partnership between Mitchell Owen and Matthew Wade. The duo added 61 runs in just 28 balls, setting the tone for the chase. Owen was particularly destructive, smashing three consecutive sixes against Jamie Overton in the fourth round.
However, Lloyd Pope brought the Strikers back into the match by dismissing Owen for 37 from 16 balls. Wade followed soon after, falling for 27 from 18 while attempting to sweep Cameron Boyce. The Hurricanes, once cruising, found themselves at 101/4 in the 11th over.
The heroics of Tim David
As the borders dried up, Tim David took matters into his own hands. He targeted Overton in the 15th over, smashing three sixes and a four to claim 26 runs. David discussed his half-century in just 22 balls, showcasing his explosive hitting.
Tim David and Nikhil Chaudhary put together a vital 75-run stand for the fifth wicket to stabilize the Hurricanes’ chase. Chaudhary contributed a steady 22 off 22 balls before getting out, but David ensured there were no slip-ups.
With just 11 runs needed from the final two overs, David hit a six off Brendan Doggett to ease the pressure, and Chris Jordan sealed victory with a boundary. David finished unbeaten with a total of 62 from just 28 balls, smashing six sixes and three fours, as the Hurricanes ended the match with eight balls to play.
Collective batting effort of the strikers
Earlier in the day, the Adelaide Strikers posted a competitive total of 186/5, thanks to valuable contributions from Chris Lynn and Alex Ross. Lynn’s quickfire knock of 49 from 27 balls, including five fours and three sixes, gave the Strikers a good start.
Ross played a vital role in the middle overs, scoring 47 from 29 balls. He shared a 64-run stand with Ollie Pope before falling to a brilliant catch from Mitchell Owen. Overton’s 27 runs, not out from 18 deliveries, saw the Strikers finish strongly, adding 41 runs in the last four overs.
