Turkey has arrested 37 suspects of having pretended to have made “provocative positions encouraging crime and hatred” about the detention of the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, the Minister of the Interior announced on Thursday.
Türkiye Imamoglu detainedPresident Recep Tayyip’s main rival Erdogan on Wednesday on accusations such as transplant and helping a terrorist group, a stage that the main opposition party criticized as a “coup attempt against the next president”.
The Turkish authorities have identified 261 accounts of social media, including 62 based abroad, for “provocative posts” following the detention of imamoglu and 105 others, and continued efforts to find the remaining suspects, said the Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya on X.
The minister said that 18.6 million positions had been shared on X about Imamoglu in less than 24 hours after his detention.
Defining a temporary ban on demonstrations, hundreds went down to the streets to support the mayor of Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu and protest against the Erdogan government.
Turkey has also seized a co -owner construction company by Imamoglu, said the office of the Chief Prosecutor of Istanbul.
In a statement at the end of Wednesday, the prosecutor’s office said that control of the construction, trade and industry of the Imamoglu was taken up by a court, based on investigation reports on financial crimes.
