Tyler Perry calls out insurance companies for canceling policies before fires
On Sunday, January 12, Tyler Perry shared a long message on Instagram after seeing a woman use a garden hose to protect her 90-year-old parents’ home due to their insurance being canceled. This moment made the filmmaker question insurance companies that take people’s money but abandon them when they need coverage the most.
“Does anyone else find it appalling that insurance companies can take billions of dollars out of communities for years and then all of a sudden be allowed to cancel millions of insurance policies for the very people through whom they became rich? People who have paid dues their entire lives are left with nothing because of pure greed,” Perry wrote.
Additionally, Perry said he is keeping everyone affected by the fires in his prayers. He also revealed that he was looking for ways to offer support.

According to Page sixTHE Los Angeles Times revealed that State Farm General Insurance announced plans in March 2024 to drop 30,000 homeowners and condo insurance policies upon expiration. Among them, 1,600 insurance policies covered properties in Pacific Palisades, an area of Los Angeles hit hard by fires that left many residents without homes and belongings.
The LA Times also reported that Allstate had suspended its new policies, while Tokio Marine America Insurance Co. and Trans Pacific Insurance Co. were pulling out of California altogether. Meanwhile, Mercury Insurance has stepped up to welcome former clients of these companies.
