Marcus Rashford has refuted reports he met with a top sports agency in a bid to help him move away from Manchester United this month, calling them “ridiculous”.

Several media outlets had reported that the 27-year-old striker had held talks with Stellar, the same agency that helped facilitate Gareth Bale’s £86 million move to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.

Rashford is currently represented by his brother, Dwaine Maynard, but reports claimed he was ready to join Stellar to help with the move.

However, the England player responded to the speculation in an Instagram post: “There have been a lot of fake stories written over the last few weeks but guys this is getting ridiculous – I’ve never met an agency and I I have no intention of doing so.”

Uncertainty over Rashford’s future at Old Trafford grew after he told journalist Henry Winter in an interview last month that he was ready “to take on a new challenge”.

The striker had been absent from four successive squads after being left out of the Manchester derby by Ruben Amorim, but returned to the team as an unused substitute in Monday’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.

However, the United manager insisted after the match that there were no ulterior motives for leaving Rashford on the bench.

“I think about the team,” Amorim said. “You think about Marcus a lot. I think of the team. When I’m there, I don’t make my point. I just want to win the match.

“And you can feel it, I’m talking about the idea and the fight for relegation. Do I want to make a point during a match? No, I just want to win the match.
