UnitedHealth Falls on Report of US Probe of Medicare Billing

(Bloomberg) – The actions of Unitedhealth Group Inc. fell on Friday after a report that the United States Ministry began to investigate the insurer invoicing practices in recent months.

The ministry’s civil fraud investigation examines how United Health Records Diagnostics that leads to higher payments of the Advantage Medicare Program of the Government, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the issue.

The shares of Unitedhealth fell up to 8.9% before the opening of the American markets. They had lost 0.7% this year at the end of Thursday.

The government has examined the costs of Medicare Advantage, a private version of the Senior Medicare health program. Congress Medicare Advisers have raised concerns about how the program’s payment system can be manipulated, declaring an “urgent need for a major overhaul”, in a 2024 report.
