The 18th match of Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 between the Hobart Hurricanes And Sydney Sixers at Bellerive Oval, Hobart, presented an extraordinary moment that left fans in awe. During the game, a bizarre incident occurred when a batter’s shot inadvertently hit the umpire, creating a memorable moment in an already drama-filled game.

A lucky escape for the referee

The unusual event occurred during the Hurricanes’ 19th innings when Sydney Sixers bowler Ben Dwarshuis delivered complete and direct delivery to Chris Jordan. Jordan returned the ball aerially towards the bowler, and Dwarshuis managed to get his hands on it but failed to complete the catch. When the ball ricocheted off his hand, it hit the back of the referee, who had turned to try to avoid the incoming ball. Fortunately, the pace of the ball was reduced due to Dwarshuis’ contact and the referee escaped unscathed.
