Dozens of runners braved air temperatures of around -50°C (-58°F) to complete a marathon in RussiaIt is Yakutia region on Sunday January 12.

The Oymyakonsky district is also known as the “Cold Pole”.

It is one of the coldest regions in the world with a permanent human population: its all-time lowest temperature was recorded at -67.7 °C (-89.9 °F) in 1933.

The runners’ hair and eyelashes were snow white and they drank hot water instead of cool water to rehydrate as they raced through spectacular forests.
