Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was full of praise for his side after the Magpies secured their fifth successive Premier League win with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham.
Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak scored the goals as Howe’s side came from behind to claim all three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Dominic Solanke had given Spurs an early lead and piled on the pressure late on, but the visitors held on as they continued their push for a top-four finish.
“We had to dig deep today,” Howe told TNT Sports after the game. “It was a tough but huge win for us.”

Asked about a possible handball in the build-up to Newcastle’s equalizer, Howe admitted the ball had hit Joelinton’s arm, but said he was unclear on the rules in that situation.
The Magpies boss was quick to congratulate the in-form Isak, who became the third Newcastle player to score in seven consecutive Premier League games, after Alan Shearer and Joe Willock.
“He is [Isak] again in the right place, at the right time, and there’s an art to it,” Howe said.
“[He’s scored] huge goals for us. He is on a very good streak and long may it continue.
Howe added that his team’s recent impressive performance has helped build confidence in the team.
“The confidence has definitely changed, as it naturally does when you win games. I think it was something we were building on. Our performance, overall, was pretty good.
“We went through a very difficult period, but among those, there were games that we probably should have won. But we are a very good team. We have good players so I like to think we can keep him [the run] on the way.”

Isak acknowledged that the atmosphere in the camp was good, but said the players should not get ahead of themselves.
“It’s about maintaining that energy, keeping the same level because it can change at any time. We have to stay focused and work hard to keep winning.
On his own goal streak, the striker added: “I’m really happy with the way things are going. I approach every match with the same mentality to score.
“I’m not thinking about breaking records or anything like that. It’s just a positive point. »
“I don’t think it’s just individually, it’s collectively. As a team we have been very good lately. I think we played very well. This makes it easier for individuals. It goes hand in hand.
