Brighton captain Lewis Dunk said his side “find themselves in a tricky situation” after being held to a draw by Brentford.

The home side had most of the play and 24 shots on goal, but failed to get past Mark Flekken or his replacement Hakon Valdimarsson in the Brentford goal.

Julio Enciso set the tone in the opening minutes when he fired a shot off the woodwork after intercepting a pass from Flekken.

The Brentford goalkeeper then made good saves from Matt O’Riley and Kaoru Mitoma before injuring his groin.

Dunk told Prime Video: “We are in a difficult time and we cannot win.

“There were games in which we didn’t do enough and lowered the intensity. You look at the stats and at the start of the season we were overtaking teams. We looked at the stats and the games we won, we ran more than them, and the games we didn’t win, we ran less.

“We have the best players.”

The Bees threatened themselves from time to time, with Yoane Wissa seeing a goal disallowed for a tight offside.

Solly March returned as a late substitute after 14 months out through injury, but was unable to inspire a goal as both teams had to settle for a draw. This is only the second point Brentford have won on the road.

“I’m excited about Solly March,” Dunk added. “A second ACL, two surgeries, did he even think he would ever recover from it?”

Brighton – who are now six without a league win – are now 10th in the table while Brentford are two points behind in 11th.
