A famous American college football player, an aspiring young nurse and the mother of a four-year-old child are among the victims of the New Year’s Eve attack in New Orleans, in which at least 15 people were killed .

Their names are released by families and loved ones before authorities complete the autopsies.

Martin ‘Tiger’ Bech

Martin “Tiger” Bech is a former Princeton University football player.

His death was confirmed in a university press release.

“There was no more appropriate nickname for a Princeton player I coached,” Princeton football coach Bob Surace said in a statement.

“He was a ‘Tiger’ in every way: a fierce competitor with boundless energy, a beloved teammate and a caring friend.”

Martin Bech’s brother, Jack Bech, posted a tribute on X alongside a news article reporting his death.

“I still love you brother!” he wrote. “You inspired me every day, now you can be with me every moment. I have this family T, don’t worry. It’s for us.”

Mr. Bech was a member of the 2016 and 2018 Ivy League championship teams.

Nikyra Cheyenne Dedeaux

The 18-year-old was an aspiring nurse.

His death was confirmed by his mother, Melissa Dedeaux, on social media.

“I lost my baby, just pray for me and my family please!!! God I need you now!!,” the mother pleaded, alongside a photo of her daughter carrying a red graduation cap and gown from this year.

Ms Dedeaux – who is also a nurse – told local media outlet Nola that her daughter was due to start nursing training later this month.

She said Nikyra fled with a cousin and a friend, both of whom survived.

Nikyra’s school friend, Dante Reed, told the New York Times that he received a frantic call from his cousin, saying they had run away when they heard gunshots and that she – Nikyra – had disappeared.

Her grandmother, Jennifer Smith, told the newspaper “she was a joy for the short time we had her.”

“I am very proud of all my grandchildren, and this one in particular.”

Reggie Hunter

The death of the store manager and father of two was confirmed to CBS News, the US partner of BBC News, by his cousin Shirell Robinson Jackson.

Ms Jackson described him as “full of life” and said the 37-year-old had sent the family a message a few minutes after midnight to wish them some good news soon.

He was with another cousin who was injured during the attack.

Mr. Hunter’s younger sister, Courtney Hunter, told The New York Times that her brother enjoyed being with the family and was competitive when it came to playing games.

Nicole Pérez

Kimberly Usher Fall, Ms. Perez’s friend and owner of the deli store she ran, called her dedicated, intelligent and a “kind-hearted person,” according to CBS.

“She was beautiful and full of life,” she wrote during an online fundraiser she organized for her friend.

The 27-year-old was also the mother of a four-year-old boy.

Ms. Usher Fall said Ms. Perez used to bring her son to work on his days off from school.

She taught him math and the alphabet in the deli storeroom between jobs, Ms. Usher Fall told the Washington Post newspaper.

“She was a really good kid, man, she really was,” she said, adding “she was just getting everything going, and she left, just left.”

Matthew Tenedorio

The 25-year-old audiovisual technician had a “relaxed spirit and infectious laugh” that brought joy to those around him, according to a fundraiser organized by his family on his behalf.

His mother, Cathy Tenedorio, told US television network NBC News that she last saw her son alive at 9:00 p.m. local time on New Year’s Eve, adding that she remembered having him hugged and kissed.
