For decades, the dream of a better life abroad attracted thousands of Indians to countries like Canada, the pursuit of promises of better education, higher income and a more comfortable lifestyle. But a quiet reversal is underway. An increasing number of non -resident Indians (NRI) now rethin the foreign dream and return home, taken both by personal priorities and changing ground realities. In such a story, a professional based in Canada explained why he was ready to return to India a year after having moved.
The user, who moved to Canada last year with his wife and child with a closed work permit, said he no longer saw “big advantages in Canada”.
“I came to Canada last year with my wife and child on a work permit to close. Back in India, we both worked and could save 30 LPA ($ 50,000 CAD). After spending a year in Canada, I think India offers a better lifestyle than here, ”he wrote. “Don’t wrong me, even if we both work to save 100K CAD. When we ask my colleague and my friends why they wanted to settle here, I can’t find any strong reason.”
Weighing the advantages and disadvantages, he presented his reasoning:
Benefits in Canada:
- Free health (although he thinks that Indian insurance can correspond to this)
- Free education (the only clear advantage)
- Larger houses and cars (which it finds useless)
- Social respect among relatives (which he does not appreciate)
- Potential wealth after 7 to 8 years
- Standard work schedule from 9 to 5
Advantages in India:
- Pleasant weather
- Cultural roots and proximity to the family
- Ability to take care of parents
- Better food and digestion
- Potential to create a secondary company
- Family support to raise children
“Why does everyone strive to settle abroad?” He asked, wondering if he released a gold opportunity.
The post sparked a wide range of responses.
A user argued that Canada offers a much better balance between professional and private life. “Most of my friends in India have no fixed working hours … winning in dollars gives you more financial flexibility, and international trips are more practical.”
Another warned against fierce competition and poor public infrastructure in India. “The cities are dense, polluted and lack basic equipment such as parks and trails. Government institutions are corrupt and water crises are common. ”
But not everyone was sold to the west. “No, you don’t miss anything … We also come back. It is not worth it. Health care has completely broken and education here is zero.”
Others have struck common ground. A user, installed in Canada since 2015, said: “There is no way to hell, I can even imagine doing office work in India. Traffic, crowd and pollution are exhausting. But I can always come back to my aging parents – but not permanently. ”
Another said it clearly: “If you can save 30L in India, it’s absolutely better even if you save $ 100,000 CAO (which is about 60L) … But it depends on the type of education you want for your children.”
