Chile! Yolanda Saldivar social media erupted after his legal request from behind prison bars. Saldívar is infamous for being the woman who shot and killed the singer Selena in March 1995. She is serving a life sentence in Texas, but according to The New York Postshe wants to go out. Yolanda has reportedly asked to be paroled in 2025 amid an alleged bounty on her head in prison.
What Yolanda Saldívar would have asked in court
When Selena died, she was just 23 years old and days shy of her fourth wedding anniversary to the band’s lead guitarist Chris Pérez. A year before his death, the singer had won his first career GRAMMY for “Best Mexican-American Album”. Her victory marked the first time a Tejano artist won in this category.
Ironically, Yolanda broke down while she was president of the singer’s fan club. She shot Selena in a hotel room in Corpus Christi, Texas, on March 31, 1995, during a confrontation over a $60,000 embezzlement. The singer considered firing the fan club president. Saldivar insisted from the start that the shooting was accidental and that she intended to take her own life, not kill the beloved artist. Yet a jury found her guilty. She was later sentenced to life in prison with possibility of parole after 30 years.
This parole period will open in March 2025. Yolanda Saldívar is now 64 years old and is an inmate at Patrick L. O’Daniel in Gatesville, Texas. A representative from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirmed to the NYP that the killer had a impeccable criminal record. That considered, it is likely that the parole board will agree to hear Yolanda’s plea. The update is that she has reportedly filed the relevant documents to be eligible for parole.
Inmates say there’s a bounty on the killer’s head
At least two former inmates reportedly spoke with The New York Times about the danger Yolanda might face in the general prison population.
“Give me five minutes with this bitch” This is the sentence Yesenia Dominguez told the media outlet she heard about Yolanda. “Everyone wanted justice for Selena. There’s a target on his back. says the former inmate. Another inmate, Marisol Lopez, co-signs this energy. She said that “everyone knows who Yolanda Saldívar is.”
“There is a price on her head, as if everyone wants a piece of her. The guards keep her away from the others because she is so hated. If she was out, someone would try to take her down,” Lopez reportedly explained.
A cousin of Yolanda Saldívar told the NYP that keeping Saldívar in prison “will be of no use”. The cousin added that Yolanda felt like a “political prisoner” and said it was “time for her to come out.”
Meanwhile, according to the NYP, Selena’s family will likely receive official notice of a parole hearing next month.
