Patrice Evra defended Didier Deschamps’ record as a manager of France and suggested that FIFA “gave the World Cup to [Lionel] Messi ”in 2022.

Messi has entered the Qatar tournament with the World Cup the only missing piece on his sparkling CV and played a key role while the men of Lionel Scaloni have won their first world crown since 1986.

Inter Miami star scored twice in the final when Argentina beat the Blues, for whom Kylian Mbappe scored a triplet, during a penalty shootout after the end of the 3-3 match after an additional time.

It was an end of fairy tale for the player and Evra said that everything was not as it seemed.

In an interview on RMC Sport, the former Juventus, Manchester United and the left back of France said: “Okay, we have not won [a major tournament] Since 2018, but we all know that in 2022, they have given the World Cup to Messi. Everything was already written.

Evra sick with Zidane Talk already

Evra also talked about what he believes to be a lack of respect for Deschamps, who announced that he will be held after the final of the World Cup next summer in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Speculations surrounding his replacement have already started with Zinedine Zidane would have been at the top of the list of wishes from the French football federation.

Despite the criticism of a perceived style of play, Evra thinks that Deschamps deserves more credit.

He added: “I find that there is a huge lack of respect for Didier Deschamps since we are talking about another director of the national team when he is still in place.

“There is a World Cup to prepare. I don’t think it will bother the team. Players should focus on the present, but we cannot talk about Zidane in each interview.

“We are talking about Didier Deschamps. Are we spoiled children?
