“So we are here to create and make the best show on the planet of all time,” said Infantino. He gave Trump a personalized balloon and unveiled an elaborate trophy which will go to the winner of the FIFA 2025 club World Cup, which will face football clubs against each summer before the national team match next year.

Trump then brought Infantino to show the trophy at the start of a white house cryptocurrency summit. The United States, where football has gained popularity but remains a niche sport, represents a major growth area for football, he said.

Infantino compared the production of the World Cup to the detention of three Super Bowls a day for a month, a vertiginous security and logistics challenge for host governments.

The Trump Administration will face a second test on the world sports scene in 2028, when the summer Olympic Games will be held in California, the first time that the games have been in the United States since Salt Lake City has been organized in 2002.
