Marcus Rashford will miss Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool on Sunday due to illness.
Rashford has not played for United in the last five games, although he was an unused substitute in Monday night’s home defeat to Newcastle.
“For the moment, he is ill,” said boss Ruben Amorim this afternoon. “He doesn’t train. It will be released this week.
The England international recently spoke of his desire to leave Old Trafford for a new challenge and United are said to be willing to sell if they find a buyer.
This could pose a problem, however, with Rashford keen to stay in a major European league while his wages mean he is out of reach for the majority of clubs.
The 27-year-old has been reported to have rejected three lucrative offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia and is also not interested in a move to Türkiye.
The Sun claimed this morning that United are exploring a deal that would see Rashford join Napoli in exchange for Victor Osimhen, but a deal of that magnitude appears unlikely in this window, especially as the Nigerian striker is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

Amad and Maguire ready to stay
There was better news for United fans regarding winger Amad Diallo.
The 22-year-old has finally established himself as a first-team regular this season following a hugely productive loan spell at Sunderland.
His current contract is due to expire this summer, but Amorim confirmed an extension was “close” and also said the club would trigger an option to extend Harry Maguire’s stay at United by a further 12 months.
“We are happy to continue with Harry,” Amorim said.
“We will trigger our option. He needs to improve as a leader because we lack leaders on the field.
